This first item was done as an "I wonder how the most basic of loudspeakers would compare to the best?" A thread on PSW (see here) showed the frequency and phase response of an EAW loudspeaker. Apparently much time, effort and expense has gone into creating a smooth phase response. So how would an Eminence Beta10 wired in parallel to a piezo horn in a small sealed cabinet compare.

The top graph is of the
EAW NT29
and the bottom graph is the Beta10 and peizo. The vertical scales are
slightly different so consider that when comparing the difference in the steepness of the slopes.
Apart from unwrapping the phase trace I went with all the default settings
and used the delay determined by the program.
If you compare the blue trace in the upper image to the trace in the lower
image both suffer from an almost identical dip in response (at about 280Hz)
caused by reflections from the ground.
I'm not making any comparisons between the quality and performance of the two, I was just curious to see
what the phase response of the "cheap" loudspeaker would look like in
comparison to what is considered state of the art.
My measuring set up was simply to place the loudspeaker (a wedge monitor) in
the middle of my lawn (surrounded by trees and bushs) and aim the microphone
at the loudspeaker from head height.
