A Little Bit About Our Web Site

Lynn and Steve's web site at burton-manor.co.uk was launched in November
2002. This is our first web site and and back then our first attempt at web
site design. Since creating the web site we have learned quite a lot about
html, browser compatibility problems, and that a lot of the techniques that
we had used (frames for one) were not considered a good idea. After three
years we decided that it was time for an update. The frames have gone along
with some of the early content. The main aim of the update is to improve the
consistency throughout the site whilst trying to retain the original style.
To achieve a similar look to the old site we have used style sheets to
maintain a frames look, while using a dynamic web template will allow us to
easily make changes in the future. As always we will add topics and
information to the site and update it as and when we have time.
The original site was developed using MS Frontpage using a screen resolution
of 1024 by 768 pixels and was checked at 800 by 600 pixels and 1280 by 1024
pixels. The new version of the site has been designed to give a reasonable
compromise between the above resolutions rather than optimised for just one.
As we don't have access to Macintosh computers we check mainly on
windows compatible browsers, The latest version of the site has been
validated using W3Cs online validation service and checked to work in the
main browsers Internet Explorer 6, Netscape Navigator 7, Firefox and Opera.
Except for colour co-ordinated scroll bars everything works the same in each
browser. We have more recently tested the site on konqueror running on
Knopix version of Linux. If you have problems it could be with the
settings in your browser. Depending on the settings of your browser
you may get a warning about the perils of active content. We are simply
using java scripts to open larger versions of images in popup windows.
Allowing our active content to run shouldn't cause any problems. If you are
unsure how to do this or simply don't want to, the images should just open in a
new browser window. The site has not been tried in earlier versions or other
type browsers to the ones mentioned above. Updates about the site will be
posted on the
news board . If you experience problems accessing the site please get in
touch. Our aim is to make the site available to all visitors irrespective of
browser or operating system. Please be aware that we do this for fun so
correcting problems may not be a priority or indeed something we are not
able to do, and while we do try to respond quickly to people who contact us,
work, holidays, families and life in general can cause delays. Due to its
nature the site contains many images and some multimedia content; apologies
to those on a slow internet connection.
If you have any questions or comments about any aspects or content of the
site please feel free to email us or post a message on the discussion board.
This is a privately run web site that we do out of interest and fun. We
have no affiliation with any commercial companies mentioned on the site, nor
do we pass on email addresses or information sent to us. Whilst we have not
deliberately included any material that could be misleading to others we
take no responsibility for any problems that you may encounter from acting
upon it. While we guarantee that we will not misuse any information
submitted to the forum or any communication sent to us by email, please remember
that this is the internet and the privacy of any information transmitted can
not be guaranteed. Apart from some of the animated gifs, which are from the
public domain, all content is owned by us unless otherwise stated and the
owners credited. Where possible we have provided links to any content
derived from elsewhere. If you wish to use any of the content from this site
please ask us first. If you feel aggrieved by any of the content please
contact us and we will try to rectify the matter if possible.
We hope that you enjoy the site and find it useful.
