So you think you understand kit car magazines

The reviews in the kit car mags seem to be fairly straightforward but do you really know the true meaning behind the actual words. The following list of what they say and what they really mean should help.

Simple but effective  It works occasionally
Flawlessly moulded body shell It has got no floor
A backbone chassis Floor with a transmission tunnel
Space frame chassis Anything with more than two tubes
Monocque Body-shell with built in floor and an extra layer of fibreglass mat
Solidly built Too heavy
Donor cars readily available Most accessible car in the yard when the prototype was built
Deluxe kit Contains most of the basic bits
Spare parts are cheap Non available so cost is zero
Utility vehicle No heater, no carpets and it leaks
The prototype had one or two minor problems Needs several years further development
The customer can tailor this to their own requirement We haven't got a clue how to do it
Under development We can't get away with it any more
Rugged good looks The huge wheels distract you from the sh**  styling
This is a service we can offer We would rather not but if the customer is prepared to be ripped off
A family vehicle Has a padded rear parcel shelf
